A murderous android discovers itself in All Systems Red, a tense science fiction adventure by Martha Wells that interrogates the roots of consciousness through Artificial Intelligence.

“As a heartless killing machine, I was a complete failure.”

In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety.

But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern.

On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid — a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.” Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is.

But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it’s up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.

The Hidden Ship

February 17, 2022 by Melanie

Such a fun read! Good character development, fast-paced narrative, and enjoyable action-packed adventure! The last 10% of the book could use a copy edit; there were many typos near the end of the story. But you’ll be so immersed by then that you won’t care. – Amazon Review

The Hidden Ship
The Hidden Ship

Brian Polk had been stateside for barely a year after leaving the Air Force when the unthinkable happened. It was an interstellar invasion—the beginning of the end of known civilization. First, military installations and the largest cities across the globe were turned to rubble. Tens of millions of souls lost during a horrific reign of terror. Government centers and law enforcement resources were next. Finally, the aliens eliminated humanity’s means to electronically communicate with each other. The Earupitan’s technology and weaponry was so remarkable, so advanced, humanity never really had a chance. The aliens now walk brazenly among humans—their reptilian eyes always watchful, always scrutinizing. No one is safe, and almost everyone who gets taken into an OEC center never sees the light of day again. Humanity now lives in fear—freedom is a thing of the past. And then there are those who have befriended the enemy . . . But not Captain Brian Polk. He’s far more interested in taking back a little of what was stolen. When he acquires some of the alien technology, he finally has hope of making some small difference. He might even be able to pull off the impossible—that or he’ll die trying.

Reviews:

Great Sci Fi Adventure!
I had hours of flights and layovers and The Hidden Ship kept me highly entertained during my travels. The characters are great and the tension never lets up. This was similar to the Scrapyard series Mark wrote, which I also loved. I highly recommend the book if you enjoy sci-fi adventure.- SC

Cool Scifi Alien Invasion Story
Man that was awesome. I don’t suppose we could see the further adventures of Captain Polk in a follow-up book? I enjoyed the action, just like all that crazy action-packed fighting in the Scrapyard series. Thanks for a GoodRead. Robert Great Military Science Fiction Alien invasion, heroes, space opera, sex, betrayal, good guys, underdogs, arrogant alien buttheads all present and accounted for! Written like the classics from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. Good stuff. Sam Just as good as Ship Wrecked Hidden Ship was just as good as Mark Wayne McMcGinnis’ Ship Wrecked, which was my favorite military space opera book. I liked the characters, human and alien. I liked how the hero overcame his own desire for revenge and showed how humans could be gracious and merciful to a truly vile alien enemy. The aliens too had their good points as not all were truly cruel and merciless. All in all a great story filled with action with a little suspense thrown in at the appropriate time. Nice, easy, enjoyable read that keeps your attention. KG Love his (Mark Wayne McGinnis] writing. Period. Always a good story and plot but it’s most often the wonderful way he portrays his characters that I love most. They always are genuine, good and evil. You hate the bad guys more and more just as you really root for the good guys. This was a fun, more local to Earth, than space tale of heroism and friendships across species that was a kick in the pants adventure that seemed to get better and better as the story progressed. Also nice to have, what I felt, was a stand-alone book. I didn’t see a need for a sequel. Too many book series out there right now. Thanks for a great time. Highly recommended.- Belleraphon

Captivating SciFi Space Opera
One of the best written and captivating scifi space opera novels I have read in a long time. Once I opened the cover I could not put it down. The Hidden Ship had no slow spots – this book keeps you going from the beginning to the very last page. Highly recommenced this book! Looking forward to reading other works by Mark Wayne McGinnis. Much thanks, sir!- KC

Best Alien Invasion sci-fi Book
Best alien invasion scifi book I have read in years. Mark Wayne McGinnis has not disappointed. From Scrapyard Ship to Hidden Ship, he always delivers.- EM
