A murderous android discovers itself in All Systems Red, a tense science fiction adventure by Martha Wells that interrogates the roots of consciousness through Artificial Intelligence.

“As a heartless killing machine, I was a complete failure.”

In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety.

But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern.

On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid — a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.” Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is.

But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it’s up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.

The Blade’s Memory

March 21, 2022 by Melanie

Once again, Lindsay has drawn me into Sardelle and Ridge’s world, taking me on a journey, this time closer to the age old war between the Cofah and Iskandian nations. The blossoming romance between Cas and Tolemek grows before an accident makes Cas retreat into herself and disappear. The fights and suspense are wonderful and more magic comes into play. – Amazon Review

The Blade’s Memory:
Dragon Blood, Book 5

Ridge, Sardelle, and their comrades may have rescued Tolemek’s sister and freed the dragon, but trouble awaits at home.

The king is missing, a secret organization is hunting sorcerers, and the capital is more vulnerable than ever to enemy attack. Worst of all, at least from Ridge’s point of view, someone put that jackass Colonel Therrik in charge of the flier battalion.

Ridge and his allies have a lot of problems to fix, but they can’t show their faces in the capital without being arrested or shot. This time, it’s going to take a lot more than magic to save the country.

The Blade’s Memory is the fifth installment in the Dragon Blood series.

Unidentified: A Science-Fiction Thriller

March 4, 2022 by Melanie Leave a Comment

There’s just not enough stars to grade another of Doug’s books. I was going to “save” UNIDENTIFIED for my vacation in December… oops it’s finished on my drop day to my Kindle! I’ve been more than just a fan of Douglas E. Richards since I began reading his novels. There’s a real personal connection he makes with his readers and he makes me feel like a friend. He’s smart, entertaining, current and his books grab you on page one. UNIDENTIFIED: A SCIENCE-FICTION THRILL is compelling and I was unable to put it down. Thanks Doug for one more winner. So when do I pre-order your next one??? – Amazon Review

Unidentified:
Science-Fiction Thriller

It’s now clear that UFOs are real. When Jason Ramsey discovers their shocking agenda, his actions will either transform humanity . . . or destroy it entirely. Unidentified is a riveting page-turner. One detailing the actual evidence that UFOs are here, while offering a mind-blowing fictional take on the reasons why.

Ripped from today’s headlines, Unidentified is the latest thriller from the NY Times bestselling author whose books have sold over two million copies.

Between 2017 and 2021 the US military admitted to having undeniable evidence that UFOs (now UAVs or UAPs) are here, and defy the laws of physics. When Jason Ramsey, a popular science-fiction writer, becomes obsessed with the subject, he undertakes a relentless quest to uncover what is really going on. After recruiting Tessa Barrett, an extraordinarily talented mercenary, Jason devises a risky, desperate plan to get to the bottom of it all. But the truth is far more shocking, convoluted, and dangerous than anyone could have guessed, and he has no idea who he can trust.

Jason soon realizes that he can only be certain of two things. He somehow holds the key to the future of the galaxy itself . . . and his chances of living out the week are vanishingly small.

Unidentified is a masterful near-future thriller, one packed with nonstop action, unexpected twists, extraordinary technology, and astonishing ideas.

“Richards is an extraordinary writer,” (Dean Koontz) who can “keep you turning the pages all night long.” (Douglas Preston)

“Richards is a worthy successor to Michael Crichton.” (SF Book dot com)

In 2007, the Center for Automation in Nanobiotech (CAN) outlined the hardware and software platform that would one day allow robots smaller than human cells to make medical diagnoses, conduct repairs, and even self-propagate.

In the same year, the CBS network re-aired a program about the effects of propranolol on sufferers of extreme trauma. A simple pill, it had been discovered, could wipe out the memory of any traumatic event.

At almost the same moment in humanity’s broad history, mankind had discovered the means for bringing about its utter downfall. And the ability to forget it ever happened.
